PLEASE READ THE APPLICATION FORM CAREFULLY AND WHEN COMPLETED RETURN TO THE COORDINATOR WHO COVERS YOUR LOCATION

The aim of Dachshund Rescue is to find permanent caring homes for Dachshunds in need. The reasons for a Dachshund needing a new home can be many but, fortunately perhaps, demand exceeds supply. To be included on our waiting list, please read the following notes. They are written with the welfare of the dog in mind and are self-explanatory.

PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY AND, IF THE CONDITIONS ARE ACCEPTABLE, FILL IN THE FORM AND RETURN IT. RETAIN A COPY FOR YOUR REFERENCE. You will then be added to our waiting list.

Your application will be acknowledged and the relevant coordinator will contact you when a dachshund becomes available. If accepted, you will stay on the waiting list for one year, after that, your interest MUST be renewed either in writing or by telephone.

The dog should not be left alone for long periods so if there is no one at home during that day, you should not consider having a Dachshund.

If you take on a dog from Dachshund Rescue, you undertake NOT to BREED from it or SELL it. If you cannot keep the dog (for whatever reason) you must contact Dachshund Rescue. The only exception to this would be that the dog should be ‘put to sleep’ for health reasons upon veterinary advice.

If you are specific about which variety, colour or sex of dachshund you hope to obtain, it may be some time before we can meet your requirements.

If necessary a home visit will be arranged at a mutually suitable time. It is important that all members of the family are present as the Dachshund Rescue representative will be explaining typical Dachshund characteristics and ensuring that everyone is fully aware of the pros and cons of owning a Dachshund. They will aim to answer your questions about the breed and assess your suitability to own a Dachshund. An essential part of a home visit is an inspection of the garden and to make sure it is secure.

Once a successful home check has been carried out, the adoption can proceed. We will always take into account your personal preferences. We prefer that you view and collect the dog from its current home. This enables you to meet the current owners, discuss feeding habits, health etc. If, for any reason, you decide the dog is not for you, then it has had no disruption. In certain circumstances, other arrangements will be made as dogs are sometimes placed in our kennels or a foster home. If this is the case, the Dachshund may be seen by appointment.

Dachshund Rescue will supply as much information about the Dachshund as possible; however we cannot guarantee a Dachshund’s behaviour in every circumstance. Please have realistic expectations with regard to the settling in period. Some Dachshunds adapt very quickly to their new environment but others may have been through a great upheaval and take quite a long time to adjust.

Dachshund Rescue is always available with help and support for any Dachshund adopted from us. You will be required to complete a form which requires the Dachshund to be returned to us in the event that you are no longer able to keep the Dachshund.

You will be responsible for ALL VETERINARY CARE AND INNOCULATIONS for its lifetime, unless an older dog comes with existing health issues. Each dog comes with 5 weeks free pet insurance,(max cover £1500) and the opportunity to continue the cover whatever their age.

We would be happy to accept a minimum donation of £100 for the Dachshund you are taking on which helps us to continue this work the exception being dachshunds being in need of extra care. Please consider completing the Gift Aid form. Cheques should be made payable to 'DACHSHUND RESCUE '.

If you find a dog from another source, PLEASE LET US KNOW as this saves a lot of otherwise wasted time, phone calls and unnecessary expense.

REMEMBER TO RETAIN COPIES FOR YOUR REFERENCE.

Thank you for your interest.

In submitting I agree to accept the conditions laid down by Dachshund Rescue and accept that I will be responsible for the dog’s welfare and veterinary care for the rest of its life.
Thank you for completing the questionnaire. It is usual, before offering a dachshund to prospective owners, for one of our home-checkers to visit you at home (often with one of their own dachshunds). You will then have the opportunity to ask questions. Someone will contact you to arrange a convenient time to call
